FOSIS comments in aftermath of attempted attack as Muslim students return to campus

fosisThe Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS) in the UK and Eire today commented on the alleged Detroit bomb attack as Muslim students return to university campuses.

Faisal Hanjra, President of FOSIS said today, “In the aftermath of the alleged Detroit bomb attack, there have been a number of claims and counterclaims surrounding the events in the run up to the alleged attempted attack. We reiterate our call that conclusions can only be drawn once the full facts of the investigation come to light and the need to avoid speculation and conjecture. It is crucial that as with all suspected criminal acts that the natural course of the law should be pursued, with the facts being established and the case being presented before the court. It is though unfortunate that once again, a small minority of individuals and organisations have seized on this opportunity to castigate Islamic Societies and tarnish the positive work they do, defaulting to defunct, tiresome and discredited arguments.”

He further added, “It is important that Muslim students are able to return to universities after the winter break safe in the knowledge that campuses will continue to remain secure and open centres for academic learning and public debate.  We urge all Muslim students to be vigilant of any possible backlash and to contact the relevant authorities as well as FOSIS should there be any such occurrence.”
